Natural macadamias in shell have an extremely hard outer shell, the nut inside is pale yellow in colour. Once you break through that hard brown shell, you will be rewarded with some deliciously creamy macadamia! They can sometimes taste fatty or waxy but this is normal for a macadamia’s texture. The colour of the nut inside can also be two shades of yellow, denoting the top and bottom. Macadamias in shell usually require “Heavy Duty” nut crackers to open, this is why they are also enjoyed as a challenging snack by large parrot breeds like Macaws.
